Abstract

The characteristics of a circular patch microstrip antenna with a top-loaded monopole feed are investigated. Air is used as the dielectric substrate. The distance between the radiating patch and ground plane is approximately 0.15 λ₀. The patch is excited in the TM₀₁ mode. An impedance bandwidth (SWR<2) of 50% and an average gain of 5 dBi are obtained.
