note = "Funding Information: A joint research project funded by the European Union, Colonial waterbirds as bioindicators in China and Pakistan ( EU-INCO-DC, 2002 ), has measured ten trace metals/elements in Little Egret eggs from several locations in China ( Fig. 3 ). Trace element levels in eggs from Hong Kong were, in general, comparable with those recorded in the Pearl River Delta (PRD), except for Ag (0.001 μg g −1 ), Cr (0.096 μg g −1 ), Pb (0.063 μg g −1 ) and Zn (8.694 μg g −1 ) in eggs from PRD. Levels of Ag, Cr and Zn in Ardeid eggs from Hong Kong were higher than those from PRD. MPV in Hong Kong is located within the Pearl River Delta, and thus eggs collected from this site may be expected to contain similar types and levels of metals and metalloids as compared to other sites in the PRD. Funding Information: This project was funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (CityU1102/02M). This work was undertaken during tenure of a City University Postgraduate Studentship to JCWL. We would also like to thank the staff of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Hong Kong SAR Government, for their assistance with sample collection.",
