Abstract
With the prevalence of digitalization, people's lives are surrounded by digital technologies, devices, and systems. These technologies offer users the possibility of achieving higher performance in the digital world. In this environment, quantified criteria and expanded social circles can influence individual perceptions and behaviors. Influenced by quantitative standards, people use digital technology to correct or optimize their performance and presentation of data, resulting in digital perfectionism. In this study, digital perfectionism is observed by analyzing the interaction between digital technology and individuals' pursuit of perfection. This paper first differentiates digital perfectionism from traditional perfectionism using the User-Performance-Climate framework in digital communities. This study conducts a typology by adopting a multidimensional view and dual process theory. Four dimensions of digital perfectionism are identified, and corresponding measures are provided from instrument development. This study mainly contributes to the conceptualization and operationalization of digital perfectionism and provides a foundation for future IS research.
