abstract = "Life-cycle probabilistic life-cycle risk assessment of coastal bridges under typhoon hazard is progressively gaining attention. Though damage of coastal bridges during typhoon-induced wave and surge impacts has been widely investigated, probabilistic models are lack of research to characterize the bridge vulnerability and the consequent life-cycle loss. This paper aims to provide a framework of probability-based life-cycle risk assessment of coastal bridges under typhoon hazard and to propose an analytical method to estimate the typhoon-induced life-cycle loss. The proposed methodology can benefit the society to manage risks of coastal bridges during typhoons. The investigations focus on deck unseating failure mode, which is a primary damage pattern for simply supported bridges during typhoons. The proposed methodology is applied to an existing bridge to ensure the feasibility.",
