Abstract

Nowadays, shape memory alloy (SMA) has been adopted within the design and retrofit of highway bridges to improve the seismic performance. The performance benefit associated with the SMA bridges has not been well recognized and the relevant study is still needed. This paper aims to apply the resilience assessment to the comparative performance assessment of novel bridges using SMA. The corresponding structural performance on basis of fragility analysis and resilience are addressed. The proposed approach is applied to highway bridges with SMA-cable-based bearings.
