title = "Re-thinking Popular Culture",
abstract = "After World War II, popular culture has led to significant cultural and social changes across the world. Due to the global development of commerce and mass media, the cost of entertainment has been significantly reduced. Ordinary people could now afford to enjoy more forms of cultural activity. Entertainment services, such as cinema, pop music, fast food and restaurants, are now integral to urban daily life across the world. For example, Hong Kong locals have been listening to Cantopop music on the radio, television, and in the neighbourhoods of the city since the 1970s. This, in turns, has made Cantopop key to Hong Kong{\textquoteright}s popular culture. Scholars have found popular culture significance to local history and societal changes, as these cultural products are constantly created, consumed and enjoyed by a large population across social classes on a daily basis.
