Noncooperative Resource Management in Wireless Systems

Abstract

Resource allocation and management are important in a wireless communication system, in which the scarce bandwidth spectral resources are shared by multiple users. In this chapter, we consider resource allocation problems in noncooperative environments, where users are assumed to be selfish and each user’s resource is obtained by competition. Specifically, in a noncooperative environment, wireless users exhibit noncooperative behaviors due to self-interests, compete for the resource with each other, try to overuse the radio resource, and maximize their own advantages without regard to the performance of other users and the overall system.
