Abstract

This study aimed at evaluating the information literacy skills of 29 pre-service teachers. Information literacy skills include five essential areas: the ability to (1) identify the information needs; (2) select information sources; (3) locate information; (4) evaluate information; (5) synthesize information. These areas are essential life-long learning skills for pre-service teachers to cope with the rapid change in the information age. In the present research, information literacy skills were measured by questionnaire, multiple choice knowledge test and task-based information problem. The findings indicate that the majority of participants lacked information literacy skills. It is concluded that instructional support to foster pre-service teachers' information literacy skills is essential.
