How technological advancement explain labour migration? Evidence from Asia

Abstract

This paper addresses an issue of how technological advancements affect labor migration in Asia. In economics, migration is regarded as a kind of investment in human capital. Technological advancements interlink with globalization and have two effects on labour demand. The general consensus is that it reduces the demand for low-skilled labour and creates demand for high-skilled labour, also information cost is substantially reduced through Internet search engine development, thus, migration flow should be affected by technological advancements. The empirical result shows that technological growth brings a positive effect on migration stock as well as net migration. The brain drain problem will also be discussed.
