Abstract

On 1 January 2022, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange updated Appendix 3 of its Listing Rules, which addresses "Core Shareholder Protection Standards with an introduction of core shareholder protection standards". We summarise the changes made to the shareholder protection rules under the Hong Kong Listing Rules, with a focus on minority shareholder protection. We then analyse the main issues involved and offer suggestions for further improvements.
