Emotionally Adaptive Interaction Techniques for Enhanced Learning Experiences

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This research examines the possibilities of integrating emotional intelligence into educational settings to improve student engagement and results. The study examines the use of interaction modalities such as tactile, auditory, and visual feedback to provide emotionally intelligent learning experiences that correspond with learners’ emotional states. The prototype development phase encompasses an interactive learning platform integrating emotional engagement modes to enhance educational quality. The adaptive platform included algorithms in affective computing for the real-time identification of emotions and subsequent adaptation depending on those emotional states. Evaluation of whether the emotionally adaptable learning platform enhances performance relative to conventional techniques is then conducted. Two hundred samples were obtained from participants of various demographic backgrounds. They were randomly allocated to an intervention group using the emotionally adaptive platform and a control group applying conventional learning techniques. Statistical analysis assessed the impact of emotionally adaptable engagement approaches on the learning experience. A qualitative component gathered data via follow-up interviews to better understand participants’ feelings and perspectives on learning. This comprehensive method ascertains whether emotional involvement enhances learning outcomes and shapes future educational technology breakthroughs. The results of this study may facilitate the exploration of new avenues for designing with and about emotion and act as a catalyst for the development of more emotionally advanced instructional tools. The findings can assist educators and designers in comprehending how emotion-aware learning activities enhance student engagement in distance education, facilitating the development of computing devices that align with learners’ emotional needs while integrating affective technologies with educational technology to enhance learning through interactive experiences.
