Design of Creative Writing Programme and Multimedia Practice: A Case Study of Hong Kong Metropolitan University's Creative Writing Programme.

Abstract

The Master of Arts in Creative Writing programme of the School of Arts and Social Sciences of Hong Kong Metropolitan University, launched in 2020, has been well received by students. The programme design emphasises games, music, animation, and integration of different media, such as film, images, texts, etc. Upon the basis of creative writing, the teaching content gears towards the prevailing popular multimedia content and visual texts to strive for nurturing new blood in the industry who are familiar with multimedia format and multiple creative formats. The main research target of this paper is the programme design and the teaching methods of three courses in the programme, viz. “Creative Writing Workshop: Principles and Practice of Literary Writing”, “Topics in Genre Fiction”, and “Reading and Writing of Online Fiction”. It will analyse the application and practicality of the integration of creative writing and multimedia. This paper aims to contribute to the improvement of the teaching of creative writing and the practices of media by advancing the accumulation of first-hand practical teaching experiences.
