Abstract
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the material properties of wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) austenitic stainless steel in fire. A total of 26 coupon specimens, extracted parallel and perpendicular to the printing direction, were tested within the temperature range of 22 ℃ (ambient) to 1000 ℃ by the steady-state method. Stress-strain curves were obtained, from which the material properties were extracted, including elastic modulus, 0,2% proof strength, strength at 2,0% total strain, ultimate strength and ultimate strain. Retention factors for them were calculated and compared with those from the design guidelines (EC 3 and SCI). The comparison results show that the predicted retention factors of elastic modulus are generally unconservative compared to the test results, while those for 0,2% proof strength are generally conservative. The predictions of strength at 2,0% total strain and ultimate strength are generally close to test results.
