Confucian Love in Higher Education

Abstract

This chapter attempts to gain insights from Confucianism teaching on love in higher education. It offers a brief summary distilled from the teaching of Confucius relevant to higher education, taking into consideration the development of education in China from more than two millenniums ago. Delineating relevant key notions, especiallyren, it highlights and analyses the virtues relevant to higher education that Confucius advocated. By anatomizing sense in Confucian love, it identifies key principles regarding love for oneself and others. It also examines how these principles could be applied in higher education.
