Abstract

China is situated in the Far East, far from the major tourist-generating regions of North America and Western Europe. Getting to China, therefore, is a major long-haul consideration for most travelers, even those from other Asian countries, such as those in Southeast Asia and even Japan. Air transportation is the crucial link to almost all of China's major international market regions, although land transportation plays a significant role for many emerging markets in getting to China and for travel within China. Water transportation also has a complex, although more limited, role to play in China's transportation system.
