Abstract
The management of an enterprise-scale business intelligence (EBI) initiative is a resourceful and complex undertaking, involving multiple organisational stakeholders over a lengthy period. Draw upon the concepts underlying prominent Capability Maturity Model (CMM), this research explores and defines different maturity levels for managing of business intelligence effort on an enterprise scale. Based on the literature in BI and CMM, a multi-dimensional set of critical factors for characterising the levels of EBI maturity has been proposed. Specifically, there are six key dimensions of capability influencing the EBI effort: data warehousing, information quality, information infrastructure, knowledge process, human capital, and organisational culture. From a practical standpoint, the proposed model provides useful basis to firms aspiring to elevate their business intelligence endeavour to higher levels of maturity. The research also serves as a foundation for initiating other relevant studies and for assessing EBI maturity.
