Abstract

Traffic management is one of the transportation issues in modern cities due to the rapid growth of populations and city developments. Without well-developed traffic management or by out-of-date traffic management models, congestions will have occurred since road transportation is one of the essential connections in a city. This paper presents a hybrid intelligent traffic light system for the Hong Kong traffic network which optimizes the road throughputs using object detection and evolutionary algorithm. Simulation results show the improved efficiency and effectiveness of the road usage by using the hybrid intelligent traffic light system.
