Abstract

The first step in traditional letterpress printing is typesetting, which involves selecting suitable characters from over 4,000 Chinese character blocks and arranging them in a specific pattern or article in an orderly manner. The characters are arranged into a printing plate, which is then printed and the characters are returned to their respective character blocks. The gathering and scattering of the characters completes their work and creates different printed materials. This work attempts to showcase the various possibilities of the small character blocks through their gathering and scattering.
