Biography

Dr. Cheung is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU).  He received his B.Sc. in Molecular Biotechnology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In 2014, he completed his M.Phil. in Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong. In 2020, he obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology at CUHK.

Appointments

Dr. Cheung is currently registered as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part I of the register under the Hong Kong Medical Laboratory Technologists Board. He has more than 10 years of experience in microbiology testing in the private sector and public sector. Before joining HKMU, he was a Scientific Officer (Medical) in Public Health Laboratory Services Branch, Department of Health. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and emerging infectious diseases including COVID-19. He has been appointed HOKLAS Technical Expert and Technical Assessor (Medical Testing), Hong Kong Accreditation Service, Innovation and Technology Commission since 2022.
