Biography

After post-doctoral training, Dr Chan was promoted to Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Pathology, The University of Hong Kong. He subsequently joined the Prenatal Diagnostic Laboratory (PDL), Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Tsan Yuk Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital as a Scientific Officer (Medical). He was appointed as Quality Manager and then Laboratory Director, overseeing the PDL providing prenatal diagnostic and screening services. Before joining HKMU, he was promoted to Senior Scientific Officer in Hong Kong Genome Institute to oversee the laboratory setup and operation for the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP), which is the first popluation scale human genome project in Hong Kong.

He has authored and co-authored in over 100 papers and reviews in peer reviewed and international journals, including Nature Genetics, Nature Communication, Cancer Research, PLOS Genetics, PLOS One, NPJ Genomic Medicine, Prenatal Diagnosis, American Journal of Medical Genetics (Part A and C). Scopus Author Identifier: 7406034195 (Holding h-index of 33 and total of citation over 3000 times, as of June 2023).
