Biography
Ms. Queenie KWAN is currently a Senior Lecturer of the School of Nursing and Health Studies at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. She is a Registered Nurse (General) of Nursing Council of Hong Kong and joined the academic field after 10 years service in a local private hospital. Queenie is engaged in nursing education and health promotion, and has been awarded the Present's Award for Distinguished Achievement by the Hong Kong Metropolitan Universty in 2024 and 2019.
Queenie has conducted some funded projects regarding Advance Care Planning, End-of-life Care and Gerontological Nursing in recent years:
- "To say goodbye: A card game to facilitate advance care planning discussion" funded by Association of Hong Kong Nursing Staff (Co-Investigator, Project No.: PDF201003)
- "Dying in Place and Related Policy: Knowledge, Preference and Stages of Decision Making" funded by Hong Kong Metropolitan University (Co-Investigator, Project No.: RD/2022/2.17)
- “International Conference on Gerontechnology 2020” funded by The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (Project Member)
- “Mobile applications for Health Management Service in Community” funded by Innovation and Technology Commission (Project Member)
Queenie has presented in overseas conference regarding Advance Care Planning and Dying in Place since 2023:
- "What matters at the end-of-life? A qualitative study of Chinese patients’ and caregivers' perspectives" in 14th International Nursing Conference by Korea Society of Nursing Science
- "Improving End-of-Life Care in the Chinese Community: The Development of a Culturally Sensitive ACP Board Game" in 14th International Nursing Conference by Korea Society of Nursing Science
- "Knowledge of dying in place and preferences for place of death among older adults in Hong Kong" in Lightning Round Poster Presentation for the 2024 Spring Meeting by British Geriatrics Society
Apart from nursing education, Queenie is also passionate in serving the community for more than 20 years. During the part years, she exchanged her volunteer insights in Singapore and Beijing, and she is recognised as the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteer by the HKSAR in 2014. Furthermore, Queenie specialised her voluntary services in nursing knowledge and skills in recent years. She has been nominated by the Assocation of Hong Kong Nursing Staff and has been awarded the Professional Volunteer Service Award by the HKSAR in 2015 and recognised as the Leadership Bauhinia Volunteer by HKSAR in 2016.
